We'd like to say we're a technology-first company, but the truth is we want to stand apart from difficult-to-use, technology-first products: whilst there's a great deal of technical excellence that goes into building and running Upload, we pride ourselves on focusing deeply on the user.
Intercom's Des Traynor said it best:
There's a big difference between making a simple product, and making a product simple.
Our destiny is in our own hands.
We don't have shareholders, a board of directors with outside interests, or old VC guys in the background pulling strings. We generate revenue from customers who pay us, so we have unlimited runway to keep building the things we want to build.
The vast majority of our work gets done on GitHub, with Slack as the main communication channel. We do weekly meetings via Zoom to discuss progress and plan what's coming next.
What we aim to achieve
We want Upload to be something our users can't live without: something that nothing else comes close to.
Helping our customers is key: we know if they’re successful, we will be too.
Transparency fosters trust, and trust from our customers and teammates is paramount.
To keep our transparency values in check, we continue to ensure that large parts of the Upload platform remain open source.
We always push the status quo: every solution must be the best solution for the problem at hand.
Time is a scarce resource, for everyone. We try to respect it by cutting down on meetings and bureaucracy wherever possible.
